All Terrain Vehicle and Quad Bike Training

 

Learn to use the ATV to its full potential. Sit-Astride and Sit-In courses available. The full course content for each of these skills can be found lower down the page.

 

Courses cover:

  • The relevant legal requirements and how to meet them
  • How to check the machine prior to work
  • How to get the best from your machine in different conditions
  • To use the machine in a safe and professional way
  • Loading and towing limitations
  • What to do in an emergency

There are a series of courses covering the safe use of ATV’s or Quads. These range from basic handling on level ground to more extensive use carrying loads and the use of trailed equipment. The courses are modular.

 

Both training and assessment is included during these courses so at the end of the course you know whether you have reached the Lantra Awards standard. If successful each delegate will be awarded not only a Certificate of Training, but also a nationally recognised Skills ID Card stating their competence with ATVs.

 

Sit-Astride ATVs

A 1 day or 2 day course for a maximum of 6 people.

 

Course content:

  • Legal requirements for use at work
  • Choice of suitable and effective PPE
  • Types of transmission and drive systems
  • Main causes of accidents and how to avoid them
  • Stability
  • Controls and instruments
  • Pre-use checks
  • Correct start-up, move off and stop procedures
  • Emergency stop
  • Risk assessment and route planning
  • Failed Hill Climb procedures
  • Use on slopes – ascent, descent and traverse
  • Maintaining and re-gaining traction
  • Effects of loading the ATV (optional)
  • Limits of towing trailers and equipment (optional)
  • Assessment of riding skills in the relevant sections
  • Daily checks on all equipment

Sit-In ATVs

There are 2 one day courses available, for up to a maximum of 3 operators. Dates can be arranged as required.

 

These courses are fully assessed, and may also be extended by additional modules for transporting or using specific attachments and equipment e.g. winches, hydraulic equipment

  • Conventional, front steered, wheeled ATV’s including Kawasaki Mules, Polaris Rangers, Yamaha Rhino, Kubota RTV’s plus a whole range of similar vehicles
  • Tracked or Multi-wheeled, skid-steered vehicles including Argo Cats, Soft Tracks etc.

Topics covered are similar to the Sit-Astride, as listed previously, but will include any specific references to the drive system, steering/braking methods, and related stability problems.

 

These courses are more vehicle specific than the sit-astride ones, and would generally take place using client’s own vehicles.
